How to Get There

Istanbul's international airport is called Atatürk International Airport. Ataturk Airport in Istanbul handles both international and domestic flights and is 25 kilometres (16 miles) to the west of central Istanbul. To travel from the airport to Taksim Square, the following alternatives are available:
  • Taxis are the easiest way to get into town and are available outside the airport. The journey takes about 30 minutes. All of the taxis are yellow and have fitted metres. The cost of getting from the airport to Taksim city centre is about $20 between 6:00 am and midnight, with a 50% increase after midnight.
  • Town buses are plentiful for getting around Istanbul, but usually rather crowded. Tickets are available from the kiosks close to main bus stops. A one-way ticket costs $0.8. You will need number 96T bus to get to Taksim from the airport, the journey takes about an hour.
  • There are also frequent Havas buses that travel directly from the airport to Taksim, and vice-versa. These buses serve at 5:00 am, 6:00 am, and every half-hour between 6:00 am and 11:00 pm. A one-way ticket costs $6.
