IHE-D e. V., was founded in 2004, based on a prior non formal association assembled in 2000 in Germany. It is a non-profit association fostering the use of international accepted standards in healthcare.
Its mission is to:
  • foster close co-operation between users and vendors of IT-systems in healthcare
  • enhance the interoperability of computer systems in medical and administrative environment to better serve individual applications
  • avoid error prone tasks like re-entering of demographics or examination related data
  • facilitate installation and maintenance of even complex IT-systems in healthcare enterprises

The work by IHE-D is tailored to the healthcare domains like radiology, laboratory, information technology infrastructure, cardiology, ophthalmology, dermatology, anatomo-pathology, pharmacology. The domains are growing in number as well as solved integration problems via integration profiles. The IHE-D e. V. association supports the development of a common technical framework, serves as interface between users and vendors for problem analysing and solving and is active in promoting the use of standards in the medical environment. IHE-D e. V. is closely co-operating with similar other national initiatives in Europe as well as on further international level like IHE-Europe and IHE-International.

All activities concerning European level are closely related and concisely co-ordinated with the IHE-Europe committee to obtain the highest possible concordance on international level. This close co-operation will also be active during this RIDE project.

IHE-D e. V. has as association more than 25 members from interested users and industry and employs next to the executive committee four executive members, covering the domains radiology, cardiology, laboratory and information technology infrastructure.

IHE-D will be led by Prof. Dr. Berthold B. Wein.
