ALTEC is one of the biggest ICT actors in Greece, with activities on software, system integration, services and products and telecommunications, while also operating subsidiary companies in Romania and Bulgaria.

The Software Business Unit of ALTEC involved in the project stems from Unisoft S.A. was founded in 1983, it has quickly developed into one of the more dynamic high technology enterprises. Till its completion of operations in September 2001, Unisoft S.A. was the mother company of a group with outstanding growth rate and has contributed significantly to the introduction of business software in Greek companies. Its core business activity concerns the development of business information systems and services, addressed to both the private and public sectors of the Greek economy. ALTEC is one of the most experienced ERP and business information systems providers with more than 40.000 customers from all business sectors all over Greece.

Since its foundation in 1996, the Research Programmes Division of ALTEC has succeeded in opening up a set of novel research fields. The approach taken concerns fostering of innovations by means of supporting collaboration with academic institutions and research centres, though great emphasis is given in internal (within the ALTEC group) technology uptake for support of existing product and service lines. It has participated in a number of European and national research projects using their results for improvement of current products as also development of new innovative software products and services that cover needs of the European market.

In the project, ALTEC is responsible for research activities related to semantic web service development and pilot application assessment, and shall also head the exploitation and commercialisation activities.
